Dental Crowns

A dental crown is cap-like and shaped in the form of a tooth which helps to restore, the appearance, shape, and strength of the tooth. At Addiscombe Dental Surgery, our dental specialist would gladly help to repair your tooth using a crown, ensuring it looks natural and strong.

Reasons to use dental crowns

The following are some of the reasons we would consider recommending a dental crown for you;

  • To hide a dental implant
  • To ensure a denture or bridge is held in place and doesn’t fall out
  • To ensure a cracked tooth doesn’t completely break
  • To restore a broken or extremely worn out tooth
  • To cover a misshapen or discoloured tooth
  • To improve the tooth’s aesthetics
  • To cover a tooth that has a large filling

The process of preparing a dental crown

First of all, our dentist would work on your tooth to ensure the crown will fit properly. A layer which is the same thickness of the dental crown is removed from the tooth to ensure proper fitting.

After shaping the tooth, an impression of the tooth that was prepared alongside one from the opposite lower or upper jaw would be created to ensure a correct bite. Our dental technician would then receive all information and measurements regarding the crown to be fitted, then processing and finalisation are commenced. Once your crown has been prepared by our crown specialist, a special dental cement is used to fix the crown in place.

Time process needed for implant

The whole process would involve 2 visits to our dental clinic. The first visit would be for preparation such as taking note of the tooth shade, moulding and temporary fitting, while the last visit would be for our dentist to fix the crown permanently. The whole process won’t take more than 2 weeks, and we guarantee the crown to last for many years with proper care and maintenance.

Caring for Your Dental Crown

Indeed, the dental crown cannot decay, but without proper care, the natural enamel might begin to decay. The crown doesn’t need too much care just the regular everyday brushing with a good toothpaste. Refer back to us if you need a recommendation of proper tooth caring procedures or kindly contact us.
